Gay people
I am curious where everybody stands on this. In my opinion, being gay is analogous to picking your nose. I don’t hate you for it, but it is disgusting. If you insist on doing it – at least try and hide it. Don’t pick your nose right in front of my face. I don’t think I should have to act like it is normal for some dude to act like a chick, just like I don’t have to act like it is normal for someone to eat their boogers. Am I off base on this?

I’ll preface this by saying that, similiar to nose pickers, I don’t really know any gay people, but allow me to run with your “analogy” for a minute here. If I just met someone and I didn’t know that much about them and they just start picking their boogers in front of me, then yes I would be offended. On the other hand if I got to know them and got comfortable around them and then one day I notice that they are picking their nose, its not like I am never going to talk to them again just because of it. I mean, what if they are really truely in love with picking their boogers? What are they supposed to do? From the time they were born they knew all they wanted to do is pick their nose. Don’t kid yourself here, its not like they are going to be trying to pick your nose, or pin some innocent kid down and de-booger him. If that happens then cut their nose off for all I care, thats definitely wrong. But it’s not an uncontrollable urge that strikes them at random and they can’t controll it. They just happen to prefer it to the alternatvie (using a kleenex?). Anyway, they just want to do it in a private consensual way. Who are you, Kevin, to tell them that what they do is not natural, and say, “no you just think you want to pick your nose because your father picked your nose when you were a boy”. Its not like that man, stay out of their business. You are entitled to your opinion to think that its gross, but its not really any of your business.
Thank you.

I would like to point out that Bobby Jones is having an excelent game against the Sonics right now, and that Bobby Jones wouldn’t be caught dead with a “nose picker”.

No…your not off base at all. I can totally understand why complete strangers attempting to enjoy their own lives would bother you…
Back in Yakima my family is pretty hip in the gay circle so I have probably spent more time with the homosexuals then most any other straight dude. I actually find the gays to be very enjoyable to be around. They are always in a good mood, very generous, and actually pretty witty for the most part.
Maybe I have just been desensitived to them, but to be honest I really dont see why you would be grossed out by them. They arent’ fucking each other in the streets to the best of my knowledge. What they do in the privacy of their own homes really doesn’t affect my life what so ever.
I think if we want to stop a certain group of people from grossing me out, lets start with Red Haired people. I would rather watch a couple dudes 69ing on my bed then see 2 red haired people kissing. GROSS!!!!

I think cojo is way off-base with his redhead comment. frankly, it’s out of line. there are hundreds of beautiful gingers in the world, not the least of which is David Pendergraft.
But I echo Cojo – I lived in Cap Hill for a few months and I did not see any gay sex on the streets. I don’t know if anyone else watches Real Time with Bill Maher, but Dan Savage (from The Stranger) was on it and he was hilarious when he was confronting South Carolinians.

- I saw when Dan Savage was on Real Time, and I can confirm it was really good. Nothing funnier than a gay person confronting Southern people and having them try to explain with all due respect how he is going to burn the rest of eternity in hell.
- I just thought about David Pendergraft having sex with another red head and I puked all over my computer.

I agree that redheads are more disgusting than the gays.
Things that make me uncomforatable about the gays:
promiscuous
prone to disease
use gay voice
they are different than me
Things that make me uncomfortable about redheads:
cocky
angry/mean
too many freckels
red pubic hair
pale skin
Just as a disclaimer, I say a lot of stuff to generate discussion/sad attempts at humor. I actually have no problem with the gay community. I am uncomfortable around homosexuals, but I see that as my problem and not theirs.

First – everybody should watch this video that Spencer posted in another post:

It is very funny, and very relevant to this conversation.
Second – Although hating gay people is stupid, I don’t like it when people try and act like hating gay people is the same as being a racist. Having the disire to suck another man’s dick is not the same thing as being black.
Third – I typically follow the line of reasoning that you should be able to do whatever you want as long as it is not hurting anybody else. It would seem that Gay’s would fall into this catagory.
Fourth – So it is stupid to not like people for their sexual desires that they are born with? What if somebody naturally wants to fuck their sister, or their mom? Or their dog? Am I a biggot becuase some dude likes to jerk off his puppy, but he was born that way so it is not his fault, and I just need to deal with the fact that is just who he is? is that ok? It is not hurting anybody? So any sexual act is ok just because your born that way and not hurting anybody? Maybe – but I will have to think about it a bit before I just jump to that conclusion.

Kevin, there is nothing wrong with your stance if it is not hurting anyone. Its OK to think gay people and redheads are gross.
however, I urge you to consider this thought provoking/hilarious situation:
“Julie is traveling in France on summer vacation from college with her brother Mark. One night they decide that it would be interesting and fun if they tried making love. Julie was already taking birth-control pills, but Mark uses a condom, too, just to be safe. They both enjoy the sex but decide not to do it again. They keep the night as a special secret (forever), which makes them feel closer to each other. What do you think about that — was it O.K. for them to make love?”

Morality is subjective, so Kevin, your uneasyness about homosexuality isn’t a bad thing nor does it make you a bad person, it’s just a reflection of our society. The key is realizing that truth and seeing through it. We all have prejudice thoughts about all kinds of people and things, whether we mean to or not. It’s a natural human reaction to make generalizations. It’s how your brain works. You learn and then you can make assumptions based on your prior experience. Unfortunately, sometimes it comes out as prejudice. We just need to be aware that all of our predispositions towards anything, whether it’s a kind of people, a sexual act, a kind of drug, or whatever, all of our predispositions were planted somewhere along the way. The more we are aware of that, the more we will be able to step back and make sure WE are the ones actually thinking for ourselves, as opposed to merely existing as thoughtless reflections of society’s shortcomings.
Basically, my point is this: Faggots are the new niggers. In 20 years when we look back on this era in civil rights we will wonder why it took so long and how could we have been so ignorant.
